Preparing for your newborn photoshoot

Hi lovely, I am so excited to meet you and your little one. If you are booking a newborn photography session in Berkshire or you are searching for a newborn photographer in Reading or Wokingham, this is just a friendly guide to help the day go smoothly and to make your photos feel calm and beautiful.

Timing matters a little, so aim to book your session within the first five to fourteen days after birth when babies are often sleepier and curl up nicely. Feeding gently before you arrive really helps, so try to feed just before you leave home or as soon as you get here. If you can keep your baby awake for a little while beforehand that often means they will sleep more during the session and we get those peaceful, sleepy images rather than red faced moments.

For what to dress your baby in, simple is best. I recommend having your baby in a loose nappy or a simple onesie to avoid marks on their skin. I provide a variety of wraps, outfits, blankets, and props. If you have anything sentimental you want included, bring it along and we will work it into a few images. For sibling and family photos choose neutral, coordinated clothes without busy patterns so the focus stays on your baby and on the connection between you.

Temperature is important for a newborn session, so dress in layers you can take off if it feels warm. I keep the space cosy to help your baby settle and in summer I use air conditioning to keep things comfortable for you as well.

On the day I keep things relaxed and I allow plenty of time for feeds, nappy changes and settling. Babies can be unpredictable and that is absolutely fine. Your little one’s comfort and safety is my priority and I never force a pose that the baby is not happy with. If you have any specific ideas or images you love, tell me before or at the start of the session and I will do my best to include them.

Bring anything that makes baby feel calm and settled. A favourite blanket, a soft toy or a little keepsake work beautifully. And please try to relax and enjoy it. These sessions are about preserving those early connections and tiny details, and the more at ease you feel, the more natural and timeless the images will be.

If you would like help planning outfits or want suggestions for what to bring, just message me. I am here to make this simple and lovely for you. If you are ready to book a newborn photography session in Berkshire, or other areas, I would love to save a date for you and create something you will treasure forever.
